Safety

At One Rail Australia, safety is our core value and is a major contributor to how we conduct our business for the health and well-being of our people and the communities in which we operate.

Our aim at One Rail Australia is to lead the industry in our safety performance. We encourage our people to proactively identify efficiencies and improvements in the workplace so we can constantly improve our productivity, effectiveness and safety of our business activities.

We also measure our safety performance on lead and lag indicators, which further enhances our safety outcomes and ensures we are the model for safety performance across the rail sector.

Lag Indicators:

  • One Rail Australia’s success is underpinned by industry-leading safety and customer satisfaction.
  • One Rail Australia achieved 7 years of zero Lost Time Injury prior to 2023.
  • One Rail Australia is committed to zero injuries for all people including employees, contractors, customers, suppliers and communities who depend on it for their safety every day.

Lead Indicators:

  • Strong focus on leading Hazard Identification and infield observations
    • Safe Act Observations
    • Critical Control Observations

Our primary safety measure is our Total Recordable Injury Frequency Rate (TRIFR). This records all reportable injuries to employees per million employee hours worked.

By genuinely caring and having each other’s wellbeing at the forefront of our minds, we know it creates a culture where everyone feels supported and can thrive personally and professionally.

In addition to the safety emphasis placed across our operations, our safety programs also cover social, psychological, and physical initiatives such as defensive driver training, and health initiatives like Rail R U OK? Day participation.
