Anzac Day

One Rail Australia > Uncategorised > Anzac Day

On Anzac Day, we took the time across our business to acknowledge the sacrifices many men and women have made to serve and protect our country.

Members from our NSW team joined over 150 people who braved the wind and rain to take part in the annual trek4vets midnight to dawn Anzac Day walk in Newcastle. During the 20km arduous journey through bushland, along beaches and some steep terrain, our One Team value shone through as our One Rail Australia team, armed with head torches, helped each other during the night when their physical and mental states were challenged. The walk concluded at Nobbys Beach in time to join thousands of other Novocastrians at the Dawn Service. Darrell Sherry, a retired sailor of the Royal Australian Navy and our Locomotive Manager, then laid a tribute on behalf of One Rail Australia during the ceremony.

Meanwhile, leading up to Anzac Day, our QLD team shared stories from current One Rail Australia QLD employees who have previously served in the military. Their stories highlighted what Anzac Day means for them, and how it provides a chance to remember lost friends and reconnect and check in with other veterans. We were also very honoured to have two of our employees, Rob Haywood and Tim Hall (a former Royal Australian Army Infantryman in the 2nd Battalion of the Royal Australian Regiment), attend the Sarina dawn service, representing One Rail Australia with pride.
